Heaven in White River Junction

Yesterday I went to the Main Street Museum in White River Junction. It is now one of my favorite places in Vermont… no, the world! Knowing that a place like this exists alone makes me happy; now after seeing it in person every cell in my body is ecstatic. There are so many interesting curios, knickknacks, remains, bits of ephemera, and other things. I hope… nay, I will live in a house like that with my wife someday. I wish I could write more, but I’m still trying to process it all and my brain isn’t working so well tonight. I also wish I had taken photographs, but it was dark inside and I was too excited to operate a camera. Luckily, Undead Molly, who kindly brought me to the museum yesterday, wrote about and posted photos of the museum on her blog over the summer. I will definitely go back to the museum soon.

I had never been to White River Junction and, as they say, it’s not so bad. It’s small, but there are some gems. Just walking around I got a good feeling about the town — which was more noticeable when we walked over to New Hampshire for dinner and that feeling was replaced by an uneasiness of sorts, but it went away when we returned to WRJ.

We stopped at Revolution, a small vintage clothing store of loveliness. They didn’t have much for the fella, especially a small one like me, but it must have been my lucky day because I found an awesome french cuff shirt made from black embroidered cotton. French cuff shirts are hard to find so I snatch them up whenever I find one — I have more cufflinks than shirts right now. I need to dress up more often so my cufflinks and sock garters can see some action.

Cassatt and Other Old Things

I went to the Shelburne Museum today, mainly to see the Mary Cassatt exhibit. Impressionism and portraiture isn’t my cup of tea, but there were plenty of other old things that tickled my fancy, like the old medical implements and the print shop.

Ah yes, it was lovely day for wandering around and looking at old things.

Many of the exhibits are in low light and the museum doesn’t permit tripods, so I wasn’t able to photograph a lot of things I wanted to.
