A bad photograph of Gogol Bordello performing at Higher Ground in Burlington, Vermont

Tuesday evening, I saw Gogol Bordello perform live at Higher Ground and once again my sock garters were blown off my hairy little legs. They are one of the best bands to see live. I usually find live music to be boring, that’s why I rarely go to concerts, but not these guys. They’re so energetic that even I can’t resist the urge to move my body a little. Words can’t covey and photos can’t be taken in such low light to show how spectacularly awesome they are. There are many things that make this band great: the accordion, the bearded Russian violinist, the sexy girls, and Eugene Hütz

A couple of coworkers and I bought tickets as soon as they went on sale, way back in April. We wanted to make sure we got tickets before it sold out, which it did. I bought an extra ticket thinking my friend would go with me or I would find someone in the three months prior who would go. My friend said she’d go, but then bailed on me the afternoon of the show to paint her house purple. Luckily, my friend Undead Molly was happy to fill her boots (I just saw that she blogged about it too).

I don’t care for large crowds, so I try to stay away from them as much as I can, which is difficult at a concert. We were standing in the back by the mixing board until I spotted a couple of unoccupied chairs by the wall, so we grabbed them and stood on them. This was a very good move: neither of us are particularly tall, this way we could look over the crowd and actually see the show; we didn’t have annoying people bumping into us and spilling their drinks or rubbing their sweat on us; and we were away from crowd.
