Crowd on the corner of College and Church Street on election night

After I voted last week I went home and watched the election coverage like everyone else on the planet. After it was announced Obama was the projected winner I went out on my porch to see what was going on. I heard a few people shouting but nothing out of the ordinary. I decided to go for a walk to get some air and see if anything was happening downtown.

I wasn’t far from apartment when I heard what sounded like a large crowd in the distance. As I got closer to Church St. the yelling got louder. When I got to the top of Church St. it was empty except for a few people running towards a large crowd at the intersection of College and Church Street. There were a few hundred people chanting “Obama” and “USA.” It seemed like most of them were college kids from the bars. Everyone was on their cellphone telling others to come down. I tried to take some pictures, but my batteries died right after I took the one above.

A few minutes after I arrived about 10 police cars showed up and surrounded the growing crowd in every direction. The cops looked very confused but managed to get the crowd out of the intersection. As the crowd moved towards Main St., I went home. Walking home, I passed a lot of people running towards the crowd and I could hear it all the way home until I went inside my apartment.

I arrived home just in time to catch Obama’s speech. I was impressed. I sort of feel sorry for him and the mess he’s inheriting.

This is the closest I’ll ever get to having something political on here. There are two topics I avoid like the plague: politics and religion.
