Happy Autumn

Autumn, my favorite season, officially began at 11:44:18 AM EDT today. I love the smell in the air, the colors, and (most of all) the cool weather. I try to be outside as much as possible; when I must be inside, I open the windows. I even keep them open at night because I love sleeping in the cold — waking up in the cold and then taking a shower can be difficult.

Autumn gets me motivated, and I usually maintain that motivation through winter — summer on the other hand, sucks motivation out of me and I become dull, lazy, frustrated, and cranky). Others see it as an end, but it’s always felt like a beginning to me — perhaps it’s because I was born at the end of summer. A lot of those same people start to complain about the cold and snow that’s coming. I have one thing to say to those people: Shut up and move!

Three cheers for Autumnmnmn! I do less over the summer, too – exercise less, draw less, think less, cook less, read less. My body and brain partially shut down, like a seasonally reversed hibernation.

I feel overcome with happiness when I look out the window and see grey skies and the trees whipping around in the wind. And to walk outside and feel crisp, cool air instead of cloying, dead heat! Bliss.

Yeah, it is like a reversed hibernation. Acquaintances I haven’t seen in some time have all inquired where I’ve been. Usually I make something up, but next time I’ll say I’ve been hibernating.

I also like how the colors outside match my wardrobe (and my cat), wearing layers of clothing, hot coffee on a cool morning, standing around a fire in a 50 gallon drum with my hobo friends, cider donuts (had some at work today), and much more.

While walking around, I’ve noticed people are less obnoxious, or I’m not as easily annoyed, now that the weather is cool.
